The MDC Alliance Manicaland Provincial Assembly has bemoaned the dearth of a strong member from Manicaland Province in that party’s National Standing Committee (NSC).
While addressing a Provincial Executive Committee meeting in Mutare recently, the MDC A Manicaland Provincial Chairperson, Prosper Mutseyami said Manicaland had a weak representation in the powerful NSC. Mutseyami said despite occupying an influential position in that party, Lynnette Karenyi Kore, the party’s co vice leader, was very weak.
“We have a problem in Manicaland Province. We thought that by having a vice president from this Province, we had a strong representation in the party’s apex structures but her presence in the presidium is not bearing fruits. This is the reason why some decisions are being imposed on us by certain power hungry individuals in the party,” said Mutseyami.
Apparently, Mutseyami was referring to a directive given by that party’s Organizing Secretary, Amos Chibaya that the Province must work with Mutare Central and Chipinge West legislators, Innocent Gonese and Sibongile Nyamudeza respectively.
Some MDC Alliance members are not comfortable with the fact that Gonese is Chamisa’s homeboy from Gutu. They prefer that the legislator for Mutare Central should be from Manicaland Province.
“How can Chibaya direct us to re-unite with Gonese and Nyamudeza the people that he knows very well to be rogue? Instead, the duo must be suspended from the party,” said Mutseyami.
The Provincial Chairperson claimed that he had done consultations with grassroots supporters whom he said were no amenable to the idea of accommodating Gonese and Nyamudeza. He, therefore said as leadership, they were going to defy the directive in line with the desires of the grassroots supporters.
The MDC Alliance has been dogged by internal squabbles ever since the High Court Judge Tawanda Chitapi nullified Nelson Chamisa’s presidency last year. Mistrust among party members has taken a toll with same accusing and counter-accusing each other of aligning with Douglas Mwonzora.
