…as members push for Sikhala to take over from Chamisa
The infighting in the MDC Alliance has taken a new twist amid reports that a section of that party’s supporters is now pushing for Job Sikhala to be the 2023 presidential candidate in place of Nelson Chamisa.
A source who spoke to this publication said a huge section of the MDC Alliance’s supporters had lost faith in Chamisa whom they accuse of being passive and politically lost.
“We have agreed together with other members that Wiwa (Sikhala) should take over from Chamisa because he is a bit aggressive. Sikhala is more action oriented than Chamisa and he resembles Tsvangirai because he has suffered political harassment more than Chamisa who has never been arrested or beaten,” said the source.
The same source said a WhatsApp group titled Wiwa Job 2023 Mu Office has been created to recruit members to support Sikhala’s bidding for the MDC Alliance presidency.
“We have created WhatsApp groups to push for Sikhala’s presidency. A huge section of the MDC Alliance’s supporters agreed that Sikhala should be the face of the opposition, as he is more confrontational against government, an approach which resonates well with many MDC Alliance supporters,” added the source.
The source added that they will not wait for Chamisa and Hwende to frustrate Sikhala into resigning but instead they will force Chamisa to pave way for Wiwa to be the next president of the MDC Alliance.
Recently, the infighting in the MDC Alliance showed its true colours when Sikhala, together with the National Chairperson Thabitha Khumalo were chucked out of that party’s National WhatsApp group by Hwende for having different political opinions with Chamisa.
There are also reports that Khumalo was attacked last Saturday by thugs aligned to Hwende and Chamisa, a sign that all is not well in the MDC Alliance.
