The MDC Alliance leader Nelson Chamisa has accused that party’s National Chairperson Thabitha Khumalo and the National Organizing Secretary, Amos Chibaya of being incompetent and ineffective in dealing with party issues.
A source who spoke to this publication on condition of anonymity, said while addressing the virtual National Standing Committee on Wednesday, Chamisa said the MDC Alliance is embroiled in some challenges because of the ineffectiveness of Khumalo and Chibaya.
“The president (Chamisa) accused Khumalo and Chibaya of failing to carry out their mandate as expected. Chamisa said Khumalo should emulate the late National Chairman Isaac Matongo who was a hardworking and efficient in addressing party issues,” said the source.
The source added that Chamisa directed that party’s Vice Chairperson, Job Sikhala, to assume the duties of the National Chairman in place of Khumalo who boycotted the meeting because of her differences with Chamisa.
At the same meeting, Chamisa lashed out at some members of that party whom he said were plotting to dethrone him as the leader of the opposition outfit.
“Chamisa is seeing everyone as a potential threat to his presidency, hence he told the meeting that some members whom he did not mention wanted to dethrone him,” said the source.
The source said that Chamisa aslo showed displeasure at the slow pace at which the issue of securing party offices was being handled.
“Chamisa lashed out at the Administration and Finance departments for delays at securing party offices. Chamisa said that he now thinks that all the good brains have gone to MDC T because the current team is failing to accomplish a simple task of securing accommodation for the party. He gave an ultimatum to the acting Secretary General, David Chimhini that he should secure party offices before 11 March 2021,” added the source.
According to the same source, Chamisa complained on how the suspended Secretary Charlton Hwende handled the defection of Lilian Timveous to ZANU PF.
“The president (Chamisa) said Hwende handled the defection of Timveous to ZANU PF as an amateur. He said Hwende should not have exchanged words with Timveous as that gave Timveous the guts to expose some of the hidden secrets of the MDC Alliance,” said the source.
Meanwhile, MDC Alliance senior members such as Khumalo, Ian Makone, David Coltart and Sesel Zvidzai boycotted the meeting as factionalism within the MDC Alliance continue to take centre stage.
