President Emmerson Mnangagwa has urged the electorate to vote for effective and honest councillors who are able to do justice to service delivery and transform their areas of jurisdiction.
The above was revealed by Zanu-PF National Spokesperson Ambassador Simon Khaya Moyo while addressing a Press Conference after an Ordinary Session of the Politburo at the Party`s Headquarters recently.
Addressing the media, Ambassador Moyo revealed that the Politburo noted that opposition led local authorities had failed to deliver general services like refuse collection, rehabilitation of roads and providing clean tap water. In that regard Ambassador Moyo said that President Mnangagwa urged the electorate to vote for leaders particularly councillors who are able to do justice to service delivery and to address concerns of rate payers.
Most urban areas are experiencing water challenges, with some going for months without the precious liquid. Uncollected garbage has become an eyesore and a health hazard in both Central Business Districts and the residential areas.
On the issue of illegal settlements which have caused chaos in most urban areas, Ambassador Moyo revealed that a National Taskforce on irregular settlements led by Vice President Gen (Rtd) Constantino Chiwenga had been established to conduct a fact finding mission and present its findings to the Politburo for deliberation.
Opposition officials in connection with land barons have been corruptly selling stands on wetlands to desperate home seekers, destroying the preserved wetlands which were meant to provide numerous environmental, economic and social services such as pollutant removal, wildlife habitats and groundwater recharge.
Meanwhile Ambassador Moyo revealed that President Mnangagwa urged Zanu-PF leaders to focus on the 2023 harmonised elections to ensure a resounding victory for the ruling party. In addition he encouraged all party wings, particularly the Youth League to mobilise extensively for the coming election.
