The MDC Alliance trio of Joana Mamombe, Netsai Marova and Cecelia Chimbiri have been accused of political grandstanding meant to attract the attention of the international media.
Mamombe and Marova are currently in police custody facing charges of undermining police authority and using vulgar language on Police officers, while Chimbiri has since been released.
People who spoke to this publication yesterday said the MDC Alliance trio is behaving like paid puppets on a mission to portray the country negatively to soil its image.
“These MDC Alliance girls are not politicians but enemies of the State. All their actions are meant to portray the country negatively in a bid to soil its image. They want to present the country as a lawless jungle where the rule of law does not exist,” said Terrence Muponda of Hatfield.
Eunice Dzikarura of Glenview 3 said the MDC Alliance trio should know that being an opposition member is not a licence to insult and undermine the Police.
“The girls are still doing student politics which is detrimental to national development. It’s like they are being sent by someone to do silly acts in order to attract the wrath of the Police. Whatever they do is pre-planned with the sole objective of labelling the New Dispensation as oppressive and intolerant to the opposition,” said Dzikarura.
Mbare-based Edith Mutandiro said Mamombe, Marova and Chimbiri should learn from other female opposition politicians, the likes of Linda Masarira and Thokozani Khupe who do not engage in childish politics of insults and breaking the law.
“Mamombe, Marova and Chimbiri should learn from seasoned female opposition politicians like Khupe, Masarira and Priscila Misihairambwi who do not engage in politics of insults and law breaking. The MDC Alliance trio should grow up and stop behaving like kindergarten kids desperately seeking attention,” said Mutandiro.
Lloyd Butau of Budiriro urged the courts to finalise the case where the trio are being accused of faking their abduction so that they can have their time in jail and stop being political nuisances.
Last year, the trio was arrested for faking abduction and torture by State agents, an allegation which was proved to be false after investigations.
Currently Mamombe, Marova and Chimbiri are on ZWL$10 000 each for faking abduction, with the intent to besmirch State security agents.
