MDC Alliance is going into oblivion - Mashakada

By Senior Political Reporter

The MDC-T Treasurer General and Hatfield legislator, Tapiwa Mashakada has accused the MDC Alliance for engaging in retrogressive politics meant to make the people of Zimbabwe suffer.

In an interview with this publication, Mashakada said the MDC Alliance’s political strategy of “kudira jecha” is a tired strategy that is slowly sending the Alliance into oblivion and irrelevance.

“The Secretary General of MDC Alliance Charlton Hwende is infuriated by president Douglas Mwonzora's call for a national inclusive dialogue. In other words the MDC Alliance wants to perpetuate the "dirajecha" strategy as a response to the national question. This strategy has dismally failed to rally the country, instead, it’s a strategy that is sending the Alliance into oblivion and irrelevance,” said Mashakada.

Mashakada also dismissed some unfounded allegations that the MDC-T is an appendage of ZANU PF and said that these allegations are perpetuated by people who are still embroiled in student politics.

“To label MDC-T party as Zanu PF lite is politicking. It is student politics at its worst. When Tendai Biti broke away and formed his PDP in 2014, he was labeled Zanu PF. Earlier on Professor Welshman Ncube had formed his MDC in 2005 and he was labeled Zanu PF. This is a sick and tired propaganda. Today, Biti and Welshman are now Vice Presidents of MDC Alliance. I would advise the MDC Alliance to first deal with its G40 tag before accusing MDC-T of being Zanu PF,” added Mashakada.

The Hatfield legislator further accused the MDC Alliance of destroying Morgan Tsvangirai’s legacy.

“The MDC-T is the party left behind by Dr Morgan Tsvangirai. The MDC-T formed the alliance with other political parties. Unfortunately, a power struggle ensued after the death of Tsvangirai. The dispute spilled into the courts and the Supreme Court ordered an EOC, which a faction of the MDC-T ignored. It is this faction now calling Tsvangirai’s party, Zanu PF. The identity of MDC-T is clear; it is a party of trade unionists who founded it in 1999. The MDC-T is perpetuating the legacy of Morgan Tsvangirai and is together in solidarity with the Tsvangirai family. The MDC Alliance wants to totally wipe out Tsvangirai's legacy forever,” said Mashakada.

He further said that it is highly likely that ZANU PF will win the forth coming elections.

“Opposition must not fight, but work together to win elections. Without dialogue there are no reforms. Without reforms there is no change and Zanu PF will bounce back for real come 2023. Zimbabweans must embrace calls for national dialogue in order to unite the people,” added Mashakada.

The MDC Alliance and MDC-T are at each other throats with the former accusing the later of going to bed with ZANU PF, an accusation which was vehemently denied by both ZANU PF and MDC-T.
