The Ministry of Health and Child Care has sadly confirmed the death of 47 more people who have succumbed to Covid 19 yesterday.
This is the highest number of Covid 19 related deaths recorded in a single day since the first case of the disease was recorded in March last year.
According to information from the Ministry of Health and Child Care, Mashonaland West Province was the most affected with 20 deaths, followed by Harare Province with 10 deaths. The total number of Covid 19 related deaths in the country has since risen to 636 since March last year.
The Ministry further said that yesterday, the country also recorded 1 112 new Covid 19 cases bringing the number of active Covid 19 cases to 10 018.
In a bid to flatten the Covid 19 infection rate, Government has since dispatched healthcare workers to join the security services at roadblocks to screen those intending to pass through for Covid-19 and carry out awareness campaigns on mitigatory measures to reduce the spread of the pandemic.
Meanwhile, Harare residents have urged the security forces to strictly enforce the lockdown measures as some people are deliberately defying the lockdown order.
Speaking to this publication,Mr Enoch Severe of Mbare ,said people have failed to adhere to the lockdown regulations and its high time the security forces strictly enforce the lockdown in order to stop the spread of Covid 19.
“People are not taking this disease seriously. Government introduced the lockdown in a bid to flatten the infection curve but people are deliberately defying the lockdown regulations. I have seen people not wearing masks roaming around the streets. Very few people are practicing social distancing and shebeens are still operating in Mbare. Law enforcement is really necessary now because at the end of the day whatever comes, the Government is responsible,” said Severe.
Zimbabwe is experiencing a second wave of the Covid 19 pandemic and the Government has since imposed a 30 day lockdown to try and curb the spread of the disease. As of yesterday, the country had recorded a total of 25 368 cases of Covid 19, with 14 714 people having already recovered from the deadly pandemic.
