The Federation of Young Farmers Clubs Trust of Zimbabwe has applauded Government through the Ministry of Lands, Agriculture, Water, Climate and Rural Resettlement for its unwavering support to young farmers.
Speaking to this publication, the Federation’s Chief Executive Officer, Mr Sewera, revealed that, to date, the organisation held seven successful young farmers awards. He added that young farmers are impressed with how Government have been supporting these awards. “We as young farmers, are very grateful for the support we received from Government. The federation, during its board meeting held last week, agreed that the Ministry will facilitate all other awards, which will be held once per year. A committee will be set which will work with the Ministry right from profiling young farners and organising the awards”, said Muswere.
“2021 should be a year of production and l urge all young people to direct their effort in the fields and making sure crops, livestock, fisheries and forestry are productive. We want to make a significant change and be drivers of economic turnaround”, alluded Muswere.
Youth in Agriculture Apex Council Chief Executive Officer, Mrs Memory Chakwita hailed the Ministry of Lands, Agriculture, Water, Climate and Rural Resettlement for prioritising young farmers. She vowed that young farmers will continue to work hand in glove with Government to attain Vision 2030. Mrs Chakwita encouraged the young farmers clubs to unite and work together for the common goal. “We need to take everyone on board and work as a team. Despite challenges presented by COVID-19 pandemic, Government continues to support young farmers and we appreciate that. The fruits of wise policy are now bearing noting the successful implementation of the Pfumvudza concept and Smart Agriculture initiative”, said Mrs Chakwita.
Ministry of Lands, Agriculture, Water, Climate and Rural Resettlement, Youth Desk Chief Coordinator, Mr Nikros Kajengo highlighted that the direct involvement of the Ministry in the annual awards of young farmers will go a long way in enhancing the credibility of the awards. “The Ministry is a parent and young farmers believe in its credibility. Sanity will continue to prevail as all young farmers are showing unity for the same purpose”, said Mr Kajengo. Same urged young farmers to continue observing COVID-19 lockdown regulations as directed by Government.
The young farmers annual awards were previously being organised by respective clubs and Government would only be invited to officiate the ceremony. The direct involvement of the Ministry, from profiling to organising the events is part of the efforts to enhance co-operation between Government and young farmers clubs.
