Zim is a peaceful country-Gutu

By Staff Reporter

As the country prepares to commemorate the 33rd anniversary of the Unity Accord tomorrow, former MDC T spokesperson and prominent Harare lawyer Obert Gutu has said that the narrative that the country is in a crisis is a lie that should not be believed by normal people.

Writing on his Twitter handle this morning, Gutu said that every other country is facing challenges and Zimbabwe is not an exception.

Gutu further described Zimbabwe as one of the most peaceful countries on earth.

“Certain quarters of social media push the narrative that Zimbabwe is a hell hole. This is a blue lie. In reality, Zimbabwe is one of the most peaceful countries on earth, notwithstanding some economic challenges. All countries are facing one form of challenge or another,” said Gutu.

Gutu’s sentiments were echoed by another Twitter user Blessing Mushongorokwa who said an example of countries in a crisis are Nigeria and Mozambique were there are incidences of terrorism and banditry.

“An example of a nation in crisis is Nigeria where school kids are being kidnapped. In Mozambique, about 43000 people were displaced because of banditry activities taking place in that country. Zimbabwe is peaceful and we continue to ask God to keep our country peaceful,” said Mushongorokwa.

These past months, the  MDC Alliance and other country’s detractors such as SABC journalist Sophie Mokoena,Peter Ndoro, and Economic Freedom Fighter s(EFF) leader Julius Malema were  pushing the false narrative that the country was in a crisis that needed foreign intervention.

The false narration prompted South African President Cyril Ramaphosa to send his special envoys, Baleka Mbete and Sydney Mufamadi, to Zimbabwe to assess if the country was indeed in a crisis only to discover that the country was not in any form of a crisis.

Political analyst Tashinga Chabayanzara said Gutu’s sentiments, that the country is not in a crisis, are actually correct as the country’s social and political environment cannot be compared to other countries such as Nigeria, Mozambique, Somalia and South Africa were crimes related to terrorism and gun fights always make the news headlines.
