The Youth in Agriculture Apex Council has restructured with new appointments being made in order to reinvigorate that organization so that it can positively contribute to the economic transformation of the country.
Speaking to the publication, Apex Council Chief Executive Officer Memory Chakwita said the restructuring of the Apex Council is meant to rejuvenate young farmers so that they can work towards the fulfillment of President Mnangagwa’s Vision 2030 of attaining an Upper Middle Income Economy status by 2030.
“As the Apex Council, we saw it fit to re strategize and reorganize ourselves so that we can play a part in the agricultural development of the country. As a young people, our duty is to positively contribute to the growth of the country’s economy. However, we can only do that if we are organized hence we have decided to restructure the Apex Council,” said Chakwita.
Chakwita said the new Apex Council executive is now made up of capable people drawn from different sectors. She said members of the new executive were drawn from known agronomists, successful farmers, technocrats and lawyers so that they can add their expertise to the development of the agriculture sector.
Midlands based farmer John Muchenje is now the Apex Council president and he will be deputized by Saliwe Tshuma Njolome and Baldwin Mazango.
Kudakwashe Munsaka and Felicity Mupagamuri have been tasked with the administration and finance duties in the new set up.
Nomore Nhema, CEO of Nhema Chickens, Takudzwa Gahadza, Ruramiso Mashumba, Jasper Mangwana, Everngelista Chekera and Eshness Masimura have also been appointed into the new Board.
Other members of the Board are Eserina Mufudza, Crispen Munungo, Brian Kombora, Josphat Tanga, Dickson Kowo, Gerald Mhandu and Primrose Miga.
Chakwita further said that they have tried to make a regional balance so that all Provinces will be represented in the new executive.
She further said that they borrowed the idea of Agriculture Apex Council model from Rwanda where it was successfully implemented.
She said youth should be the drivers of the economy and should desist from political bickering and engage in something productivity.
Chakwita who is also the Country Director for Africa Agriculture Agenda, said in this era, investors are looking up to the energetic generation to drive the economies hence, Zimbabwean youths should be in the forefront doing various projects in support of the President’s Vision 2030.
Commenting on the restructuring of the Apex Council, the Chief Programmes Coordinator Youth Desk in the Ministry of Lands, Agriculture, Water and Rural Resettlement, Mr Nickros Kajengo said the restructuring of the Apex Council is a sign that youths are ready to support Government’s efforts of reviving the economy.
He said his office will render full support to the board so that it can achieve its mandate without any hindrances.
