ZANU-PF Deputy National Political Commissar, Cde Omega Hungwe has urged newly elected leaders of Harare Provincial Veterans of the Liberation Struggle to start establishing structures which would assist the ruling party in mobilising support in the province ahead of 2023 harmonised election.

Speaking during a meeting that was held at the ruling party's Provincial Headquarters in Harare recently, Cde Hungwe hailed President Emmerson Mnangagwa for recognising the freedom fighters by according them a full wing status in the party’s structures.

The ruling party launched the War Veterans wing in June this year at Altena farm in Muzarabani District where the first shots of the decisive phase of the Second Chimurenga war were fired in December 1972.

Speaking during the same meeting, Harare interim Provincial Chairman Goodwill Masimirembwa thanked President Mnangagwa for establishing the veterans of the liberation struggle wing which he said would oversee the impartation of the party's liberation ideology to other wings.

He stated that war veterans were the party's stockholders urging the veterans of the liberation struggle to mobilise support for the ruling party ahead of the 2023 harmonised elections.

War Veterans Affairs Secretary Cde Douglas Mahiya revealed that he was given the green light to establish the veterans of the liberation struggle wing by President Mnangagwa, citing the Central Committee and the 2019 Goromonzi Annual National People's Conference resolutions.

Cde Mahiya added that the Veterans of the liberation struggle would not be limited to their respective wing, but would contest for any positions in other party wings.

Cde Mahiya revealed that regional former liberation movements had reinvigorated themselves into Southern Africa Liberation Movements as former imperialists were relentless on their machinations to remove revolutionary parties from power.

Same further revealed that a liberation war museum would be established in Zimbabwe for all Southern Africa liberation movements.

The Zanu-PF war Veterans league will be made up of members of the ruling party only, unlike the Zimbabwe National Liberation War Veterans Association which accommodates all War Veterans, including those that do not support the ruling party.

The War Veterans league will co-exist alongside other ruling party's wings like the Main Wing, Youth and Women's leagues.
