MDC Alliance has caused a stir on social media over a cap that was seen in a photo where the Chairperson of the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC), Justice Priscilla Chigumba was taken with an unnamed International Observer, casting ZEC as being partisan.
Scores of social media users have come out guns blazing rubbishing the smear campaign on ZEC with the contempt it deserves.
In a display of ignorance of the highest order, the MDC members fail to differentiate between the court of arms as a national symbol and Zanu PF party symbols.
“That cap has a Zimbabwean bird on it, same as the scarf that has a Zimbabwean bird on it,” tweeted Never Maswerasei.
“Unless you are trying to frantically display your ignorance of national symbols, Zanu PF does not bear the Hungwe bird on any of its symbols,” he added.
Another netizen by the name Dadiso Muringi raised a pertinent point that is has since ceased to be about the hat for the MDC but about gender.
“The opposition is clearly against any woman being empowered, the cap is just an excuse,” said Muringi.
“That is a Zimbabwean bird on the cap and not a crocodile, an animal synonymous with President ED Mnangagwa,” added Mukundi Magwadhla
The MDC Alliance has been on the offensive discrediting ZEC’s independence in order to have the elections either stopped or postponed. However, Justice Chigumba dismissed with the contempt it deserves saying, “only a natural disaster such as an earthquake could stop the elections after the President E.D Mnangagwa has proclaimed a date.”
