The much-awaited District Co-ordinating Committee (DCC) elections have increased the ruling party activities on the ground, as members continue to position themselves ahead of the elections pencilled for this October.
Mashonaland West Provincial Secretary for Lands, Gilbert Chibayamagora addressed seven inter-district meetings in Kariba district, this week in preparation for the DCC election, where he warned aspirants against vote buying, citing that culprits would be disqualified.
In Midlands province, three inter-districts meetings were held in Gokwe North, Zvishavane and Chirumhanzu districts, this week in preparation of the crucial DCC elections, where National Assembly member Stephen Ngwenya revealed that National Assembly member Justice Mayor Wadyajena intends to contest for the DCC Chairmanship post, while he would go for the vice chairmanship.
During the meeting, Wadyajena pledged to champion development in Gokwe North through reviving companies such as Sengwe Coal Mine. He assured that as the Chairperson of the Parliamentary Portifolio Committee on Lands, Agriculture, Water and Rural Resettlement, he would ensure that the 2020/21 agricultural inputs would be timeously distributed to farmers for them to make use of the early rains.
Meanwhile, the Masvingo Provincial Youth Executive held a meeting at the provincial party office on 15 September, which was chaired by the Provincial Youth league Chairperson Brian Munyoro. Munyoro in his address implored Provincial Executive members to work together with their respective National Assembly members in selecting youth candidates to avoid confusion.
The Youth league from the province hailed the re-establishment of the DCCs, which they also anticipated to accommodate those above thirty-five (35) years. Munyoro intends to contest the Gutu DCC Chairmanship post and reportedly has the backing of senior party leaders in the district.
The DCCs were disbanded in 2012, by the late President Robert Mugabe-led leadership as a way to thwarting factionalism that had torn apart the ruling party.
After taking over the reins, President Emmerson Mnangagwa announced the return of the DDCs, as a way of restructuring the party ahead of the 2023 elections.
