Minister of Finance and Economic Development, Prof. Mthuli Ncube says government has released ZWL361.5 million for the completion of two major roads in Manicaland Province.
The two roads, Birchenough- Murambinda and Wengezi-Skyline roads received ZWL360 million and ZWL1.5 million respectively.
“Infrastructure development is our priority. These two roads will be completed before year end,” Prof. Ncube said.
Birchenough- Murambinda (141 km) is under upgrade while Wengezi-Skyline was damaged by Cyclone Idai in 2019.
Apart from these two roads, Mutare-Nyanga Road and Nyanga-Ruwangwe roads are also under rehabilitations. Other roads currently being rehabilitated include Harare-Beitbridge, Harare-Chirundu and Bulawayo- Victoria Falls roads.
The development of the country's road network is a key enabler to the envisaged economic activity that is expected to drive the attainment of an upper middle income economy by 2030. To this end, Government has been on a massive road rehabilitation and construction programme in all the provinces.
