Government continues to commit itself to complete the Gwayi-Shangani dam in Matebeleland North Province in a move that should empower the Province to be established as a special economic zone giving birth to a new economic hub.
The projects being spearheaded by President Emmerson Mnangagwa, in the country are starting to bear fruit as in the case of Matebeleland North were the full implementation of economic projects such as the Gwayi-Shangani project and Hwange new mining investments are giving birth to a new economic hub, the Harare Post can report.
A source speaking to this publication said, “In spite of the delays caused by the Covid-19 pandemic, the Government of Zimbabwe is still committed to complete Gwayi-Shangani project in 2022, the project is expected to solve water shortages in Bulawayo, and other surrounding areas.”
According the to The Herald, in his quest to speed up outstanding projects in Matabeleland North, this week President Mnangagwa also unveiled new coal mining investments in Hwange.
“Our desire is to achieve higher middle income status by 2030. No doubt we will achieve the vision we have set but this won’t be achieved by mining alone but by all sectors...
“We must see change of lives of the local communities because the resource is here. Yes of course the country will benefit but we must see also that this area changes and responds to the growth and modernisation of this area,” he said.
The Harare Post can report that the following mining investments are forwarding the new mining drive in Hwange; Western Coal and Energy Company, the new South Mining Coke Plant, Jinan-Tutu Coke Project and Hwange Colliery Company’s Chaba Mine.
President Mnangagwa is leading in giving direction to the nation and the private sector to take part in developmental projects that are national building in nature. The Second Republic is focussed on empowering communities in the country through various productive initiatives that ensure development and growth.
