Zim ups fight against Covid-19

Zimbabwe has intensified its fight against the Covid-19 pandemic through the establishment of designated centres to deal with Corona cases in the country.

According to the Ministry of Health and Child Care (MOHCC), they have since established more centres in order to ensure that patients are treated timeously.

“Mild to moderately ill patients will be treated at the following infectious disease hospitals; Wilkins (Harare), Beatrice (Harare), Thorngroove (Bulawayo), Ekusileni (Bulawayo) and Mutare Infectious Disease Hospital,” said the Ministry in a statement.

Provincial hospitals earmarked to deal with patients also include, Mutare General, Masvingo Provincial, Chinhoyi Provincial, Bindura, Gweru, Gwanda, Marondera and Victoria Falls Hospital.

In addition to this, the Ministry has also proposed that 3x100 men tents be erected for standby at each province.

As for district and general hospitals, the MOHCC proposed to erect 8x20 men tents for standby at each district.

“Severe to critical patients in need of Intensive Care Unit (ICU) will be admitted at Sally Mugabe Central Hospital which has a surge capacity of 1 000 beds for severe cases, 47 ICU and High Dependant Unit (HDU) beds, St Annes Hospital with 30 ICU beds, Thorngroove and Ekusileni with 25 ICU beds while all provincial hospitals has 3 ICU beds each.”

Since the outbreak of the virus, the country has recorded four death casualties, with Government channelling more resources in order to ensure that it arrests the ill.
