Chamisa’s visit to Wilkins castigated

MDC opposition leader Nelson Chamisa’s visit to Wilkins Infectious Diseases Hospital has been castigated by citizens who see the visit as a gimmick to get political mileage.

Chamisa visited Wilkins Hospital to allegedly assess the hospital’s preparedness in the event of a Covid-19 outbreak.

Political analyst, Dr Khumbula Manyewe castigated Chamisa’s visit saying everything Chamisa does is engineered to garner cheap political mileage.

“Chamisa has always castigated Government’s efforts. He knows that Government has been advising the public that Wilkins Hospital is the designated hospital for suspected Covid-19 patients. He is now taking advantage of this move to patronise Wilkins which he is saying is an MDC run hospital.

“How can someone in his right senses wants all the credit and limelight, yet it is Government that has been working on measures to designate the hospital as a quarantine centre,” he said.

Dr Manyewe went on to castigate Chamisa whom he said did not have people’s needs at heart. He added that the MDC run councils were failing on service delivery.

“If I am not mistaken, Government is already renovating the hospital with the assistance of the Chinese Government. I think he needs to look for other means of gaining popularity. This guy anoda kupinza politics nepadzisingadiwi at times.

“The MDC has initiated the ZimLOC campaign where they encourage preparedness in councils which they run. The initiative is to ensure participation of parliamentarians and increase awareness. I do not think there is anything new that the MDC is planning to do that Government has not already done.

“If it’s anything, the MDC needs to work on service delivery. They are failing on service delivery and all they are good at corruption and misuse of public funds. That is the truth. The MDC house needs serious cleaning,” he said.

The Minister of Health and Child Care, Dr Obadiah Moyo recently toured Thorngrove Infectious Diseases Hospital in Bulawayo, Wilkins Hospital and Sally Mugabe Central Hospital (formerly Harare Central Hospital) laboratory to assess their preparedness. Chinese government is also helping in upgrading Thorngrove Infectious Diseases Hospital in Bulawayo and Wilkins Hospital in Harare so that they adequately prepare for the coronavirus (Covid-19)

The Ministry of Health and Child Care yesterday made a press statement highlighting on the Minister’s recommendations to Government to ban huge gatherings, non-essential travels, companies and organisations to have hand sanitizers always, to avoid contact with people with flu-like symptoms, cover nose and mouth when sneezing, wash hands thoroughly and not to circulate fake messages.
