The Portfolio Committee on Justice, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs will hold public hearings on the Constitution Amendment Bill No. 2 (HB23/2019) from the 29th of March to the 4th of April 2020, the Harare Post can report.
A document in possession of this publication reveals that the Portfolio Committee is grouped in four clusters and their programs will be run simultaneously.
Team A will do Kariba, Chinhoyi, Gokwe Nembudziya, Sanyati and Kadoma. Team B will do Gweru, Mberengwa, Chivi, Masvingo and Zaka. Team C, Victoria Falls, Hwange, Gwanda, Plumtree and Bulawayo. The last team will do Murehwa, Harare, Bindura, Marondera, Chimanimani and Mutare.
Government, in December 2019 announced that there will be amendments to the Constitution and therefore, Parliament will conduct public hearings regards 27 clauses which are meant to be changed.
The Portfolio Committee extends its invitation to the public to attend these hearings and that contributions made will be considered by the Portfolio Committee and will be part of the Committee’s report to be tabled in Parliament.
The constitution amendment bill has been receiving a barrage of criticism from opposition voices.
