Mwonzora, Khupe sell-outs: Gama

by Lily Moyo

Rival camps within the MDC, aligned to that party leader Nelson Chamisa and former Secretary General, Douglas Mwonzora continue to widen fissures within the split prone party amid allegations that they are throwing counter allegations against each other ahead of the 2023 Presidential elections.

Former Daily News editor and Chamisa sympathiser, Stanley Gama took to his micro-blogging site and directed attacks to Mwonzora and MDC-T leader, Thokozani Khupe, labelling them sell-outs.

“Been watching events unfolding in MDC and was astounded to notice that Mwonzora is invoking the name of Tsvangirai is his bid to fight Chamisa. It is sad. Sometime, before MT (Morgan Tsvangirai) died, he told me that Doug (Mwonzora) and Khupe had sold out to Zanu PF and were working with ED (President Mnangagwa) faction.

“Mwonzora has no morale ground to be using Tsvangirai’s name in his efforts to take over the MDC. Tsvangirai confided in me that he had information about Doug’s dealings with the ED faction.  MT knew of meetings that were held outside the country between Doug and ED faction people,” he said.

Gama goes on to accuse Mwonzora of harbouring a conspiracy to divide the MDC with the intention of destroying it.

“Mwonzora participated at the MDC congress where he was soundly beaten by Hwende but I have a question for the former MDC SG. Whose interests are you serving in trying to divide the MDC? Is it that MT was spot on when he said you were now in bed with Zanu PF?

“Mwonzora how will the fights you are picking in MDC help the suffering masses, how will they create jobs, lessen poverty, improve health facilities? MT described you as a sell-out and please stop, publicly confirming this,” added Gama.

MDC members are increasingly becoming disoriented with Chamisa’s leadership which has seen senior members, Grace Kwinje and Tracy Mutinhiri resigning from the party and another new faction emerging namely the Tendai Biti and Job Sikhala faction.
