The SADC Executive Secretary Dr Stergomena Lawrence Tax has paid a courtesy call on President Emmerson Mnangagwa today (Monday 2 March 2020) at State House, the Harare Post can report.
Briefing the media after a closed door meeting, Dr Tax said that she paid a courtesy call on President Mnangagwa in his capacity as the Chairperson of the regional bloc’s Organ on Politics, Defence and Security Cooperation.
She added that it was prudent that she update President Mnangagwa on the situation in the region regarding the Politics and Security status quo in the region.
“The purpose of my meeting, as you are aware that President Mnangagwa is the current chair, so l was here to brief him about the political peace and security situation in the region,” Dr Tax said.
Responding to questions from the media, she added that as a regional bloc, they would also want to assess the level of preparedness to any threat against the peace n security of the region.
She also mentioned that as a regional bloc, there is need to tackle challenges facing the member states such as youth unemployment and climate change.
Recently, while commenting on her Twitter handle on the region’s preparedness in combating climate change, Dr Tax said, “The region was working on initiatives to enhance disaster risk management including putting in place mechanisms to ensure swift responses to quick onset disasters through activation of SADC Standby Force and involvement in humanitarian support operations.”
