Former First Lady, Grace Mugabe has been fingered in yet another land grab in Harare’s Pomona farm over the weekend as she attempts to cling on to what’s left of her petite power following the ouster of former President Robert Mugabe.
Narrating the ordeal, one of the aggrieved evicted occupants confided that the former First Lady had turned up with bouncers claiming that the property belonged to her son, Chatunga Mugabe.
“In an effort to safeguard her once ruinous rule, Grace turned up with bouncers and demanded that we vacate these premises as the farm belonged to her family,” said the source.
On refusal, the bouncers are reported to have instantly charged onto the farm’s security personnel with guns forcing them to flee.
According to the three evicted occupants, Adonia Makombe, Nyika Chifamba and Sahungwe Hungwe, they were forced to bolt from Teviotdale farm, situated in Harare’s Pomona area, despite bearing tittle deeds to the land plus a high court order of consent admitting them to the land.
The trio said that they were beneficiaries under the fast track land reform programme and all their efforts towards land preparation for this farming season were being put on halt as they were unsure of this wrangle’s end result.
“Out of respect for the former president’s widow whom we believed to be still in mourning following the death of the former president, we decided to report the matter to Borrowdale Police Station and not to physically retaliate.
“Surprisingly she kept scolding us, and blaming the new administration for being weak and assured that even if she fails to displace us this year, come 2023 she will be back on the realm,” he added.
This is not the first time that the Mugabes have been found bulldozing their way on citizens despite being on the wrong side of the law. Credible sources reported that the Mugabes had also accumulated Manzou Farm, Smithfield, Arnold and Foyle Estate in Mashonaland Central province through such dodgy means.
