President Emmerson Mnangagwa addressed thousands of Zanu PF supporters at Tshovani Stadium in Chiredzi yesterday, Harare Post reports.
Speaking at the rally, President Mnangagwa expressed gratitude for the support drummed up by Zanu PF Masvingo Provincial members.
Before addressing the rally, President Mnangagwa launched the Tongaat Hullets Kilimanjaro project site in Chiredzi.
In his address, President Mnangagwa highlighted that Government was working tirelessly to improve the livelihoods of people amid the effects of the economic sanctions imposed on the country by the western powers.
"Government will develop rural areas and soon they will benefit from the ZUPCO mass transport system which is affordable. Farmers are going to benefit from the free inputs under the Presidential Input Scheme,” said the President.
Speaking on the skyrocketing prices, President Mnangagwa appealed to the people to be patient with the Government as the country was going through the transition phase.
"Apparently, the Government has injected a lot of cash into the banking systems which will help ease cash shortages. Among other projects, the Government is also resuscitating our roads so that they meet the SADC standard," said the President.
In the same address, he emphasised that there should be fair distribution of land and agricultural inputs to all farmers.
"Those with more than one farm should surrender to the Government or the Government will take them, and those who are not utilising land allocated to them should also surrender to the Government," lamented President Mnangagwa.
He also stressed that, as a country, there was need to have own currency as it was not sustainable to continue relying on foreign currency.
President Mnangagwa encouraged the people to embrace the efforts by the Government to stabilise the economy as it was the only way to improve livelihoods.
Speaking at the same rally, Senator Josiah Hungwe commended the Government for launching the Presidential Input Scheme to increase production. He pointed out that people needed to work hard and utilise the inputs provided for by the Government.
In an interview with this publication, Zanu PF member, Sarudzai Venganai expressed gratitude for the support Government was giving to local farmers.
"Prices of inputs are unbearable and most farmers cannot afford them. We are so happy for the Presidential Input Scheme and we hope our leaders will distribute them fairly," commented Venganai.
