In an endeavour to ensure efficiency in the public sector, Government has commenced a programme on public enterprises reform aimed at improving the public sector contribution to economic performance, The Harare Post can report.
The Ministry of Finance and Economic Development in its Key Milestones and Progress on Policy Reforms document dubbed, ‘The Hidden Story of Zimbabwe Economic Development,’ released recently, said Government had targeted public enterprises for immediate reforms.
“Government has embarked on a programme to reform public enterprises in order to improve their efficiency and governance, that way, increasing their contribution to the economy.
“For 2019, Government has targeted public enterprises, namely Tel-One/Net-One, ZIMPOST and POSB for immediate reforms.
“Tel-One/Net-One is to be privatised as a single package, POSB will go under partial privatisation, de-merging GMB into GMB Strategic Grain Reserve and Silo Foods Industries have been completed. Silo Foods Industries is now registered as a subsidiary company of GMB. Re-bundling of the five separate units of ZESA shall be carried out through the amendment of the Electricity Act,” said the Ministry of Finance.
The New Dispensation is geared to reform the public sector enterprises through its vision of rebuilding and transforming Zimbabwe into an Upper Middle Income Economy by 2030.
