MDC members in invasion storm

1400 members of Marondera Lodgers Club (MLC) are in an invasion storm with Marondera Municipality after invading lot A of Hunyani Timbers land on Saturday.

The land which is owned by Marondera Municipality and measures 1700ha, was invaded by MLC members led by the MLC Chairperson and MDC member Webster Chikukwa.

Marondera Central Legislator, Caston Mateu who was the brains behind the land invasion, spearheaded the allocation of 300m2 stands to the 1400 MLC members. It took efforts by the security agents to stop the illegal activity which led to some arrests.

Chikukwa has since been apprehended and was brought in for questioning at Marondera Central Police Station. The Club Chairperson was charged with contravening Section 24 of the Regional Town and Country Planning Act Chapter 29..2, “Illegal occupation of municipality land.”

Speaking to The Harare Post a contact said Mateu is hindering development of the Municipality project at Hunyani farm.

Mateu and crew are frustrating the Hunyani farm project which Marondera Municipality was in the process of engaging investors to develop the farm into stands for occupation.

As a way of gaining political mileage, Mateu is using Hunyani farm land grab to regain his dwindling popularity.

Investigations by this publication show that MLC is not registered and is operating illegally as an MDC project.

MDC continues to accuse Zanu-PF for farm land occupation yet it stands accused of the same crimes.
