ZANU PF National Political Commissar (NPC), Victor Matemadanda said the re-introduction of District Coordinating Committee (DCC) was expected to address factionalism and regionalism that had rocked the party.
Cde Matemadanda warned that the politburo members who claim to own regions and provinces were blocking deserving candidates on tribal grounds. He went on to caution the so called provincial or regional gurus in the party that they risked being expelled from the party.
The National Political Commissar said that any Zanu PF card holder was free to contest for any position in the upcoming DCC restructuring exercise regardless of their race or tribe.
Cde Matemadanda informed that the exercise would start with the submission of Curriculum Vitae (CVs) followed by vetting which will be conducted by Provincial Coordinating Committees.
The NPC explained that the restructuring team comprised of the National Consultative Assembly (NCA), the Central Committee (CC) and the Politburo members resident in the particular provinces. He said the exercise was going to start in Harare and Bulawayo where the Provincial Executive structures were dissolved.
He further emphasised that the NCA and politburo members could risk expulsion if they interfered in the exercise.
Cde Matemadanda explained that candidates would have to prove that they had served the party districts for five years, that they had no criminal record and are of good standing.
He said 22 DCC positions were up for grab compared to the previous DCC which only had 13 positions. He went on to say that the DCC elections would be starting this Saturday.
The DCCs had been disbanded in 2012 on the false pretext that they had been hijacked by elements that sought to manipulate party structures to foment factionalism and disharmony in the party. The Gamatox cabal led by former Vice President, Joice Mujuru had accused President Emmerson Mnangagwa of using the DCCs for political manoeuvrings.
DCCs are the second highest structure in province. However, in Harare and Bulawayo they will be the highest structures to run the affairs of the provinces since the provincial executives were dissolved. The DCC will play a crucial role in the co-ordination of party activities.
Zanu-PF yesterday completed the vetting of over 400 applications from Harare’s six zones who had submitted their CVs for them to be considered as candidates for different posts in the DCC for Harare.
