Following the everlasting electoral defeats at the hands of Zanu PF in rural areas, the MDC has enlisted the services of some pastors under the banner of Chaplaincy Department, to penetrate the rural areas under the guise of Christianity, the Harare Post can reveal.
The pastors were told to spread and intensify their influence in the rural constituencies in the same manner some missionaries paved way for colonialism in Africa. The modus operandi entails opening up branches of their respective churches in the targeted rural areas.
A well-placed source within the MDC who spoke to the publication on condition of anonymity revealed that the Harare Provincial Chaplaincy Department met the MDC top leadership on Tuesday where the later emphasized the need for the Chaplaincy Department to operate in a manner that does not expose their link.
“The Chaplaincy’s provincial leaders met with the party’s leadership on Tuesday who included Chalton Hwende, Morgan Komichi and Amos Chibaya where the leadership laid the mandate required from the Chaplaincy Department,” the source revealed.
In the meeting, the source exposed that the party Secretary General, Hwende made it clear that there was to be no trace of a link between the Chaplaincy and the MDC.
“In the meeting, SG (Hwende) made it clear that the Chaplaincy Department must stand completely independent of the party so to avoid being compromised.
“SG also declared that the mandate of the provincial structures is to penetrate the rural areas and manipulate the electorate into voting for the MDC using Christianity. He said the departments would spread and intensify their influence in the rural areas,” the source added.
Investigations by the publication collaborate with the information by the source and that most of the Chaplaincy provincial chairpersons are AFM pastors, from where Chamisa is a pastor.
History will also prove that this is not the first time the MDC has formed ancillary organisations to support its course with notable mentions including the Democratic Resistance Committees (DRC) and the Vanguard coming to mind.
