3 927 students graduate at UZ

The Chancellor of the University of Zimbabwe (UZ), President Emmerson Mnangagwa has conferred 3 927 grandaunts with various Degrees at a colourful graduation ceremony held this Friday at UZ.

The event also coincided with the installation of Professor Paul Mapfumo as the 5th Vice Chancellor of the University.

Speaking during the event, Professor Mapfumo said the University was rallying behind Government’s 2030 thrust of creating a middle class economy, likewise the University’s curriculum was being reviewed to suit this mandate.

“We have intensified our efforts towards delivering education 5.0 framework and we are in pursuit of a clearly articulated national vision.

“The University has since launched the Strategic Plan for 2019-2025 on, 5 August 2019, so that we can pursue the vision to be recognised as Zimbabwe’s global centre of excellence in research and innovation by 2035.”

Of the 3 927 grandaunts, 23 received Doctor of Philosophy Degrees, 12 Master of Philosophy degrees, 760 Masters Degrees, and 3 132 Bachelor’s Degrees.

The Vice-Chancellor also hailed President Mnangagwa for his commitment to improving higher education across the country and added that the University would likewise not fail him but complement his efforts.
