ZANU PF Secretary for Administration, Dr Obert Mpofu has extended a warm welcome to sister liberation movements from the region who are attending the 10th meeting of secretary general and wings of former liberation movements of Southern Africa in Victoria Falls.
The meeting is being run under the theme, “uniting against neo-colonialism through total economic corporation, development and independence.”
In his opening remarks, Dr Mpofu acknowledged the presence of Zambia and Botswana who are attending the meeting for the first time, “At this juncture, let me extend a special welcome to our Botswana and Zambian counterparts who are participating at this meeting for the first time.
“We are one family, let us all embrace them with our comradely spirit,” he said.
Dr Mpofu also said that the next step for the former liberation movements, after bringing independence to their respective countries, is to empower the people economically in the region.
“We managed to bring political independence to our respective nations, the next journey is that of economically empowering our people.
“The vigour with which we brought this cherished freedom is the same which we should apply in the economic battle,” he said.
Dr Mpofu also touched on the significance of holding the meeting in Victoria Falls, as he pinpoints it as important to the Southern African Development Community (SADC).
“This place is also special to SADC, where we all belong. It was the entry and exit point for ZANLA and ZIPRA cadres who were streaming from Zimbabwe to Zambia and Botswana.” Dr Mpofu highlighted.
Dr Mpofu also said that Victoria Falls is also special as it is the only place that Zimbabwe, Botswana, Namibia and Zambia share a special border point.
Dr Mpofu also took the opportunity to market Victoria Falls as a tourism destination of choice, encouraging local, regional, continental and international tourists to visit Victoria Falls as it is one of the seven wonders of the world.
