President Emmerson Mnangagwa today launched the Public Service Commission (PSC), 2019-2020 Strategic Plan at the Harare Institute of Technology (HIT).
Speaking at the launch of PSC Strategic Plan, President Mnangagwa called upon the civil servants to execute their duties efficiently.
The President said, “I challenge civil servants to be responsible and good at listening, thinking and executing their tasks and roles with efficiency. I equally challenge civil servants to constantly remould their commitment to serve people. You must improve and sharpen your capacity for strategic, innovative and bottom line thinking, correctly judging and responding to contemporary issues and situations.”
He added, “The civil service is urged to always separate public and personal interests and to put the concerns of our people above personal benefit. We must remain lean, prudent, honest and upright in our conduct and in the exercise of power.
“The twin evils of corruption and inefficiency must be eradicated and it is encouraging to see agencies like PSC making that fight a key component of their strategic plans.”
President Mnangagwa said the PSC Strategic Plan is in line with his vision of making Zimbabwe an upper middle class by 2030.
“The implementation of this Strategic Plan must remain alive to the course we have chosen as a country. A course that will modernise, industrialise and grow our economy as well as improve the quality of life of our people, in line with Vision 2030,” he said.
The President went on to say Government through the PSC is undertaking various reform measures including the reform of the pension system.
He said the transition to a pension scheme that is based on a performing pension fund will yield cumulative dividends, combined with the new pay and benefits strategy and will also improve the future welfare of beneficiaries.
At the same occasion, President Mnangagwa also commissioned a fleet of 25 new buses which will service the Government employees to and from work. He said the buses would be distributed across all provinces.
