ZANU PF launched the Glen-View South constituency campaign programme on Saturday in Glen-View at a function where, among others, National Political Commissar, Cde Victor Matemadanda, his deputy, Cde Omega Hungwe, Secretary for Finance Cde Patrick Chinamasa and Politburo member Cde Cleveria Chizema attended.
Speaking at the launch, Cde Matemadanda urged Glen-View South residents to rally behind ZANU PF candidate, Cde Offard Muchuwe in the upcoming by-election scheduled for 7 September 2019.
Cde Muchuwe won the ZANU-PF Glen-View South primary elections.
Cde Matemadanda lambasted the MDC-A lawyers for defending corrupt elements in the Court. This was in apparent reference to several MDC lawyers in the leadership who have developed a penchant to represent corrupt individuals especially those from ZANU PF.
MDC Vice Chairman, Job Sikhala represented former Minister of Tourism and Hospitality, Walter Mzembi in Court who is facing corruption charges whilst that party’s Deputy President, Tendai Biti represented former Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe Governor in court over theft charges. Also, MDC-A leader, Nelson Chamisa represented Zuva company in a court case which led to the firing of over 300 000 employees in a space of three months and MDC-A Secretary for Education, Sports and Culture, Fadzai Mahere represented MetBank over theft of National Social Security Authority (NSSA) Treasury Bills.
The National Political Commissar went on to castigate the MDC leadership which he said was immature and had no traceable history. He also lambasted Chamisa for inviting illegal sanctions against Zimbabwe.
In addition, Cde Matemadanda promised Glen-View South residents that ZANU PF would drill more boreholes, construct vending structures and regularise housing cooperatives in that constituency.
The Political Commissar revealed that the ruling party will also facilitate the issuance of title deeds to all members who are fully paid up to council.
Cde Muchuwe will square off with MDC-A’s Vincent Tsvangirai, Ellah Zisani of UANC, Maxwell Kasema (independent), Phillip Chamunorwa Ndengu (independent) Parlington Pikelele (UANC) Rosemary Nyamayedenga (Freezim Congress), Crispen Rateiwa (Zapu) and Edwin Million of LEAD, led by Linda Masarira.
The seat fell vacant following the death of MDC-Alliance’s Vimbai Tsvangirai-Java who succumbed to injuries from a car crash.
The recent by-elections saw ZANU PF winning resoundingly against its rivals. In Lupane East, Cde Mbongeni Dube garnered 6 369 votes while the MDC Alliance candidate, Mr Dalumuzi Khumalo polled 4 505 votes.
