Zanu PF has come out in defence of its initiative to establish low cost bakery models, saying they are more accessible to the rural populace.
The MDC and its allies in the opposition had gone to town ridiculing the idea which they wrongly thought was hatched by government.
Zanu PF said that the initiative to build the low cost model bakeries was not a Government initiative but a party initiative meant to benefit the majority of Zanu PF members who are in the rural areas.
“First and foremost, this is a Party and not Government initiative, so it is divorced from what Government is doing to mitigate against bread shortages. It is good for political parties to move from sloganeering or fasting for mayhem to self-help projects.
“Size of project may not matter. Majority of Zanu PF members are in rural areas. Therefore, it is genius for Zanu PF to put together simple low cost models that can easily be built in rural areas using locally found materials. Empowering homes to be self-sustainable should not be ridiculed,” wrote Zanu PF Official on twitter.
One netizen called Tinamate Midzi tweeted that the project is not accepted only in towns but those in the village appreciates the effort.
“Only town dwellers are mocking this. When it goes to the village, it’s a big deal. And that’s how Zanu PF wins, by doing simple things while the Bullet Train brigade, which can`t pay its own workers, or refurbish its own Headquarters, dreams of building airports everywhere.
MDC leader, Nelson Chamisa during 2018 election campaigns, promised the rural electorate things that are not on their top priority. He said that if he won the Presidential elections, he was going to build state of the art airports in their villages. He also promised the electorate some bullet trains and other fantasy promises which the British Broadcasting Corporation news anchor, Stephen Sucker said “sounded silly.”
Zanu PF tweeted that the MDC party has done nothing for its members except for mobilising demonstrations.
“Lastly, what better projects is MDC training its members on except demonstrations and abusing prayer,” it tweeted.
This initiative by Zanu PF will help many people in rural areas to access bread since the bakeries use locally produced flour. Government will not have to import flour thereby saving the scarce foreign currency.
In Scotland, the idea of community bakeries revolutionised and transformed into large scale bakeries. Scotland The Bread, is one such bakery which bakes bread for communities and encourages the Scottish community to undergo training to support their local economies, developing short, fair trade and supply chains and creating meaningful employment and volunteering opportunities.
