Opposition elements continue to plan for demo

Although the opposition elements’ demonstration failed to take off on the planned date, 03 June 2019, The Harare Post has learnt that they are still continuing to plan for a five day national shutdown, code named ‘Red Day’, which is expected to start any time this month.

Speaking at a meeting in Highfield East constituency last Sunday, MDC Harare Organising Secretary, Paul Madzore urged his party members to participate in the national shutdown. Madzore incited MDC members to unleash violence on the ordinary people during the protest as a way of removing ZANU PF out of power.

Madzore, however, advised his party members to wait for MDC leader, Nelson Chamisa’s approval on the planned demonstration strategy.

Apparently, the MDC leader is seized with setting up a National Standing Committee (NSC), where there is lot of jostling for positions by his allies who lost at their congress recently held in Gweru. Happymore Chidziva and Morgan Komichi are among those that are demanding positions in the NSC on account that they helped to raise Chamisa.

On the other hand, impeccable sources close to the MDC leadership are saying its disgruntled former Secretary General, Douglas Mwonzora is teaming up with MDC-T leader, Dr Thokozani Khupe to fight Chamisa’s presidential legitimacy.

In that regard, Chamisa has put on halt issues to do with demonstrations to face the emerging internal revolt.

Tajamuka activist, Grand Tabvure and leader of Unemployment Youth Organisation, Onias Mhaka were engaged as chief mobilisers and coordinators for the demonstration, together with Crisis in Zimbabwe Coalition National Youth Chairperson, Pride Mkono and Zimbabwe Trust member, Allista Pfunye.

Pfunye and Mkono were instrumental in mobilising people during the 14 - 16 January 2019 demonstrations. The two went into hiding since then, but have bounced back for this June intended protest.

MDC continue to work in cahoots with activists from various Non-Governmental Organisations, with intentions to unlawfully remove the ruling Government from power.
