Visiting Tanzanian President, John Pombe Magufuli has paid tribute to the sons and daughters of Zimbabwe who sacrificed their lives to liberate the country, the Harare Post can report.

President Magufuli made the remarks after touring the National Heroes Acre in Harare today in the morning before proceeding to the State House to meet President Emmerson Mnangagwa.

He was accompanied by the Minister of Home Affairs and Cultural Heritage, Cde Cain Mathema and upon arrival, inspected a Quarter guard mounted by the Presidential Guard, before laying a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldiers.

President Magufuli was met by the National Museums and Monuments resident curator, Ms Rumbidzai Bvira who briefed him on the history of the national shrine and its significance.

Speaking to journalists after the tour, the visiting President said he was highly impressed by the shrine, adding that there was nothing political about the place. He stated that the monument was established to honour those who sacrificed their lives to liberate the country.

More than 97 national heroes, including six heroines, are interred at the 52-acre National Heroes Acre.

Magufuli is on a two day visit to Zimbabwe at the invitation of President Mnangagwa. He will return today.

Before his tour of the National Shrine, President Magufuli and his delegation of Ministers held an inter-ministerial exchange with some of Zimbabwe’s Ministers in critical ministries at Meikles Hotel in the morning.

The event was a closed door meeting with the Zimbabwean delegation led by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr Sibusiso Moyo who briefed journalists about the meeting.

He said that the inter-ministerial exchange was fruitful as ministers exchanged notes on various sectors under their watch.

“We tend to benefit a lot from this exchange as Tanzanian economy is growing remarkably,” he said.

Zimbabwe Ministers who were seen entering the venue to attend the exchange session are Hon Mangaliso Ndlovhu, Hon Vangelis Peter Haritatos and Hon Moyo.
