The United Nations Ambassador to Zimbabwe, Mr Bishow Parajuli has hailed the new dispensation roadmap to fight corruption.
Ambassador Parajuli said President Mnangagwa created an Anti-Corruption Unit within his department to effectively deal with corruption issues in the country.
Speaking last week at Transparency International Zimbabwe, workshop held in Harare, Mr Parajuli said the new dispensation should be commended for working to align laws to deal with corruption which he said would eventually attract investors.
"The county's economy has been bad during the past decades and the situation had deteriorated, but with the coming in of the new Dispensation, efforts are being made to improve the situation," said Parajuli.
“United Nations Convention Against Corruption (UNCAC) recognises corruption as a global concern which undermines good governance and human development. It does not matter where and how it happens, it is a high cost to bear," said Ambassador Parajuli.
He said corruption impeded investment which consequent effects on growth and jobs.
"Countries capable of confronting corruption use their human and financial resources more efficiently, attract more investment and grow rapidly," he said.
He said ending corruption was at the heart of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals which aims to end poverty, hunger, inequality and advance quality education, universal health coverage, gender quality, human rights, justice and environmental sustainability.
He said specific target for ending corruption fell within 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development calls, under SDG 16 for the substantial reduction in corruption and bribery in all her forms.
"Corruption is a serious challenge. The UN system recognises ending corruption as a critical step to achieving the ambitious targets set for Financing for Development.
He said Zimbabwe’s top leadership had put in motion the strong stance against all forms of corruption.
“It is indeed commendable that the Government is working on ending corruption," said Parajuli.
