The much publicised Tajamuka shut down which was supposed to run from 27 to 31 May 2019 has flopped.

Tajamuka is well known for inciting citizens and calling for violent demonstrations to unseat the constitutionally elected government.

Part of the message circulated by Tajamuka read, “Today we officially declared the national shutdown against government’s bad policies that have led to the untold suffering of the citizens. We have announced this shutdown on Thursday to give you time to buy all the basic necessities you will need during the national shutdown.

“On Monday 27 May 2019, we are not going to work until President (Emmerson) Mnangagwa resigns. Enough is enough. We urge citizens to remain at home no going to work.”

Martha Nyika, a vendor in Harare CBD told the Harare Post that these shut downs and demonstrations only pulled them back.

“These people who call for demonstrations do not know that we survive on day to day earnings. Our children depend on us, so how do they expect us to survive during this period. If they want Government policies changed they should go and talk with the Government and not involve us. Toda kushandira mhuri isu,” she said.

Harare Post has learnt that the shutdown flopped because people are tired of being used by the opposition especially MDC which they think is behind this call. Most people prefer to work and not waste time sitting at home.
