Seven big Chinese firms have embarked on a fact finding mission in Manicaland’s Cyclone Idai ravaged districts of Chimanimani and Chipinge, the Harare Post can report.
The development was announced during the fifteenth post cabinet briefing held today at the Munhumutapa offices in the Cabinet room.
Addressing the media, Minister of Information, Honourable Monica Mutsvangwa said that about seven Chinese companies embarked on a fact finding mission in Chimanimani and Chipinge to assess the level of damage left behind by tropical Cylone Idai.
The companies are assessing on how they can assist in the reconstruction of destroyed infrastructure.
Names of the companies are; Sino Hydro, China Communications Construction Company (CCCC), China Sate Construction, China Aviation Corporation, HUAWEI, China Power Corporation and Jianxi International Corporation.
This development comes after Government through the Civil Protection Unit (CPU) has finished an exercise in identifying and isolating real grievances of the victims to ascertain and guarantee continued supply of relief.
Minister Mutsvangwa said: “Cabinet was briefed that the registration exercise to identify and isolate genuine cases of beneficiaries for continued relief assistance has now been completed in Manicaland Province. Significant progress is continued to be registered in the repair and rehabilitation of damaged roads, water, health, irrigation and school infrastructure.”
On the side-lines, Minister Mutsvangwa expressed utmost gratitude and appreciation towards pledges by the international community and the corporate sector in facilitating the return to normalcy in the affected areas.
“The oneness and unity exhibited towards the plight of the people of Manicaland is so overwhelming. We are so thankful to the corporate sector and international community who are showing love to those in need,” she said.
Meanwhile, about 8 local companies have pledged to help in the return of normalcy to the Chimanimani ravaged areas and these are; Spar Zimbabwe, Grain Millers Association of Zimbabwe, The Masiyiwa Family Foundation, Petro-Trade, National Oil Company of Zimbabwe, Zuva Petroleum and Infrastructural Development Bank in Zimbabwe.
