Tsvangirai`s in-law, husband to Vimbai Tsvangirai-Java, Batsirai Java along with other selected individuals will supervise MDC`s crucial elective congress scheduled for next month, Harare Post can reveal.
The opposition party`s leader, Nelson Chamisa revealed during a National Executive Council Extra Ordinary meeting held during the weekend at Morgan Richard Tsvangirai House that the party is going to set up an independent election body to oversee the do or die congress that members fear will be marred with violence and chaos.
Zimbabwe Congress of Trade Union (ZCTU) Secretary General Japhet Moyo will lead the team deputised by Bulawayo based ZimRights lawyer Josephat Tshuma. Other members constituting the body are drawn from organisations such as Crisis Coalition of Zimbabwe, Heal Zimbabwe Trust, ZimRights, ZINASU and other religious groups among others.
Body members will include Advocate Fadzai Mahere, Heal Zimbabwe Executive Director Rashid Mahiya, Memory Kadawu from (Young Women Development), Youth activist, Stabile Dhewa, former Bulawayo Mayor, Japhet Ndabeni Ncube, NERA Organising Committee Chairman, Joelson Mugari, political activist, Innocent Sibanda, Human Rights activist, Obey Shava, Human Rights activist, Mfundo Mlilo and political activist, Minelly Tagwira.
The MDC Congress will be held at Ascot or Mkoba stadiums in Gweru in May amidst chaos and violence punctuating districts congresses which are nominating leaders of their choice ahead of the congress.
Sources within the opposition party highlighted that the congress is poorly planned and marred with violence and election rigging. There are allegations from MDC Veterans Activist Association (VAA) that Chamisa allegedly abused 165 000 Pounds donated to the party by a British citizens based in South Africa which was meant for the congress.
Chamisa is said to be using part of the money to sponsor violence and vote buying and intimidating party members who are pro MDC Secretary General Douglas Mwonzora who is contesting him for the party`s Presidency.
