United Nations (UN) official has stated that there are some things that cannot be prepared for even the best prepared efforts can face challenges when reality hits the ground.

Responding to BBC news on why Government and aid agencies were not better prepared when they knew that Cyclone Idai was coming, the UN official said that it was difficult to prepare for a natural disaster.   

“The challenges that we all have in times like this is that there are some things that you cannot prepare for, although we had anticipated for the Cyclone. Even the best prepared effort can face challenges when the reality hits the ground.”

Government Detractors have been seen on social media lambasting Government and aid agencies for failing to do the best to avoid the damages caused by Cyclone Idai.

However Harare Post has learnt Mozambique, Malawi and South Africa were also affected despite the preparedness done. Most communities were submerged and Beira city was 90 percent destroyed.

Many roads remained blocked. With key roads washed away, aid groups were trying to get urgently needed food, medicine and fuel into the hard-hit city of Beira, on Mozambique`s coast, by air and by sea.

Meanwhile, Zimbabwean Government is already dispatching funds and goods to provide relief to those who have been affected.

Speaking to the victims of Cyclone Idai today in Chimanimani, President Emmerson Mnangagwa said that there is a possibility of waterborne diseases such as Cholera and Malaria. Government will supply medication needed to Mutare so as to fight the diseases in case of an outbreak.
