Minister of Health and Child Care, Dr Obadiah Moyo has today met with senior doctors and consultants and told them that there is substantial amount of medicines and surgical sundries coming soon.
Dr Moyo said government is putting in place a healthcare system that is well supported to look after patients.
Addressing the medical Consultants, Dr Moyo said, “There is substantial amount of medicine and surgical sundries coming soon. Once there, we will call the press to announce. From this meeting, I am going to call all hospital CEOs to work on how we can instil urgency in the procurement of relevant drugs and sundries not misplaced priorities.”
Dr Moyo also said that he would do whatever it took to ensure that the health sector was not compromised. He even stated that he can go as far as changing the health care management.
“If it means management here at Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals has to change, I will do it. There are sanctions and foreign currency shortages yes, but we must be innovative to overcome. We need immediate action,” he said.
The call for Doctors to go on strike has been castigated by many who said that under Hippocrates oath, a doctor is considered to be in a social contract and is obliged to treat patient`s health and life as a priority over everything else and going on strike is considered a breach of such contract.
