The late Brigadier General, Emilio Emias Munemo has been described as a selfless and exceptional leader whose dedication to the nation of Zimbabwe has been exemplary.
Speaking at the National Hero’s Acre where the late revolutionary has been laid to rest, President Emmerson Mnangagwa described the departure of Cde Munemo as a great loss not only to the family but to the nation, more so the younger generation who were to benefit from the deep knowledge of why and how we should protect the gains of our independence
“The late Cde Revolution Tichatonga, as he was known during the struggle, was a distinguished cadre of the liberation struggle, a revolutionary, teacher par excellence, mobilised and a reservoir of knowledge on the history, ideology, ethos and values of the liberation war heritage.
“A man who served his country with humility, loyalty, commitment, persistence and distinction,” said President Mnangagwa.
The President commended, the late Brig General's ability to research and importation skills as having played a pivotal role in shading light to the citizens of our nation on the onslaught the country is receiving from the detractors.
“Cde Munemo’s research ability was never an end in itself, but was transforming and used to change society actions and behaviour, at a time when our country was under immense attack by the detractors.
“It was relevant and proffered solutions to the challenges we faced as a nation. Such must be the nature of research under the 2nd Republic,” the President added.
The President encouraged the nation to remain resolute and focused on rebuilding our nation.
“As it was during the days of our liberation struggle, many discouragements and misfortunes will befall us. Back then we remained focused on our task to liberate our motherland. Today, let us not be deterred from the course we have begun.
“Our economic and political reforms must continue in ernest; the engagement and re-engagement we seek with those who open their doors to us must carry on with greater impetus,” President Mnangagwa added.
Emphasising on the need for the people to rebuild the nation through increase in production, the President said, “Let us increase our productivity and exports across all sectors, improve infrastructure to attract trade and investment as well as broaden our tourism products to grow that sector.”
