President Emmerson Mnangagwa has addressed members of the Diplomatic corps today at State House where he stressed that member states should not interfere in the domestic affairs of other countries.
Zimbabwe abides by the principle of non-interference in domestic affairs of other states, said the President.
“As Government, we abhor any ill-conceived machinations which negate every grain of international law and upholding of the principle of sovereignty and non interference in domestic affairs of other states. Zimbabwe abides by this principle and expects other nations to do the same...,” said the President.
The President also said the country had witnessed terror and violence throughout the urban areas last month in disguise of demonstrations.
“We witnessed the ugly stare of terror and violence throughout the country’s urban centres on the 14th of January this year in the disguise of mass protest demonstrations, what was indeed worrisome was the premeditated nature of this unprecedented violence including active participation by strenuous foreign hands in collaboration with local surrogates disguised as political civic labour Non Governmental groupings.
“The demonstrations were bent on regime change, there were violent riots politically motivated, premeditated, well organised and well coordinated,” said President Mnangagwa.
President Mnangagwa also said in the New Zimbabwe, everyone had the right to protest in a peaceful manner to make their concerns heard.
“In the New Zimbabwe, everyone has the right to protest but peacefully, everyone has the right to voice their opinions but peacefully. Everyone has the right to criticise me and my Government but peacefully. Following the vandalism and looting, the security forces had to step in what followed is still being investigated. The army and the police are here to serve the people of Zimbabwe, to protect the people of Zimbabwe. Police and Solders taking the law into their own hands will be dealt with by the full wrath of the law,” he said.
