By Staff reporter

Zanu PF Youth League has scored yet another success as it completed its excruciating 467 kilometres Walkathon journey from Harare to Esigodini which is the final destination this morning.

The Walkathon was conducted in solidarity with President Emmerson Mnangagwa and as a build up to the Zanu PF 17TH National People’s Annual Conference.

The Harare Post reporter who joined the group for a kilometre walk as they were approaching the venue to loud cheers and ululations was told that the 200 member group started in Harare and all of them managed to reach their destination as a team.

Fatigue hung around the group but was drowned by the morale created by the revolutionary singing of the group.

One of the participants told the Harare Post that their journey was long and painfulbut it was a necessary move of appreciating and supporting President Mnangagwa.

He further pointed out that many of them developed blisters along the journey but they kept focused on the objective to reach Esigodini before President Mnangagwa officially opens the Conference tomorrow.

“We are happy that we have reached our destination, all of us. No one gave up on this Walkathon although many have developed blisters and others having severe cramps during the march.

“This is a new initiative that we vowed to complete as a team and here we are today,” said one of the participants.

The Walkathon received a lot of negative reception from detractors on social media where the youths were castigated for engaging in such kind of an event. However, the youths remained unfazed by the criticism.

The arrival of the Walkathon team coincides with the arrival of many delegates who came in their numbers to throng the gold rich town. The venue which is at Umzingwane High School has been brought into life as hordes of participants continue to arrive for tomorrow’s official opening by President Mnangagwa who is the First Secretary of the party (Zanu PF).

Meanwhile, President Mnangagwa is expected to arrive in Bulawayo with an evening plane ahead of the official address tomorrow in Esigodini.
