Zim provides barrier-free tourism

Honouring the international day of disabilities recently, Zimbabwe Tourism Authority (ZTA) has embarked on accessible tourism to involve everyone and cater for those with special needs.

On its Facebook page, ZTA said persons with disabilities were now being catered for in tourism.

“The days of hiding disability are over. Tourism in Zimbabwe now involves everyone and as such has evolved fast enough to cater for special needs through accessible tourism.

“Accessible tourism enables all people to participate in and enjoy tourism experiences....thus, accessible tourism is the ongoing endeavour to ensure tourist destinations, products and services are accessible to all people, regardless of their physical limitations, disabilities or age, and Zimbabwe is fully participative through providing barrier-free destinations, infrastructure and facilities including wheelchair ramps transport by air, land, suitable for all users,” said ZTA.

ZTA also said it now has fully fledged trained personnel that are capable of offering quality serves to persons with disabilities.

“We have high quality services delivered by trained staff who can effectively help any form of disability
activities, exhibits, attractions that allow participation in tourism by everyone.

“We also have marketing, booking systems, web sites and service information accessible to all in all forms of communication including Braille and High Contrast Text for those with eyesight problems, disability is not Inability,” said the Zimbabwe Tourism Authority.
