MDC core-Vice President, Elias Mudzuri, has released a hash worded response to his party colleagues, wherein he called their actions and utterances hypocritical politicking.
Mudzuri was responding to a video that has gone viral on social media where he is seen being rebuked for attending a parliament function at State House at the invitation of President Emmerson Mnangagwa, by party deputy treasurer, Chalton Hwende, and MDC Harare Central legislator, Murisi Zwizwai.
Hwende is seen in the video questioning his VP why he attended the State function alone. “Muri hwani kuState House ikoko, hana yenyu yanga isingarove here mdhara (couldn’t you tell that something was amiss when you noticed you were the only MDC member there),” said Hwende.
However, responding through a statement on his Facebook page, Mudzuri defended himself by stating that he was simply representing his party on official Parliament business just as his colleagues were, when the video was shot at a local hotel where they were attending a post budget breakfast meeting.
“If I am wrong and they are right I would be proud to be fired from the Party because I represented the Party in Parliament business. It’s sad that my very colleagues were fully engaged in parliament business at HICC on post budget consultations. What hypocrisy!” wrote Mudzuri.
Hwende went on to write on his Twitter page insinuating that Mudzuri is being influenced by financial gains and that is why he attended the State function alone.
“Money is the root of all evils,” wrote Hwende in a caption to a picture of Mudzuri being greeted by President Mnangagwa at State House.
This is the latest twist in a long line of seemingly factional fights between the young turks (led by Nelson Chamisa) and the ‘old guard’ (led by Mudzuri and Douglas Mwonzora) in the opposition movement.
Last week MDC Secretary General, Mwonzora was under fire from the party as he had been accused of bypassing his president, Chamisa, when he held a meeting with Chief Justice, Luke Malaba.
Mwonzora was only acquitted of the charges when the minutes of the meeting were released to the public.
