In a development indicative of a government with its workers at heart, the Government through the tourism ministry intends to provide civil servants with holiday schemes aimed at promoting domestic tourism.

During the just ended World Tourism Day celebrations, Minister of Environment, Tourism and Hospitality, Honourable Prisca Mupfumira emphasised the need for all civil servants to be provided with a holiday scheme by Government, a move which should promote domestic tourism.

“There is need to provide civil servants with a holiday scheme to visit all tourist resorts in the country, review entrance fees into Victoria Falls rainforest and to extend closing time of Victoria Falls rainforest to 10 pm,” said Minister Mupfumira.

Tourism Business Council of Zimbabwe (TBCZ) President, Mr Tich Hwingwiri, said the development of Victoria Falls Airport was going to facilitate ease of doing business on tourism arrivals.

“I applaud positive developments in the tourism sector with the Victoria Falls Airport being a game changer in the country's and the region's tourism arrivals,” said Hwingwiri.

Harare Post has learnt that the Second Republic is working on ways to provide civil servants with incentives to allow them to visit tourism resorts at reduced rates in a move that is expected to boost domestic tourism. One citizen also said that the idea of promoting local tourism was noble and also that all Zimbabweans in future should be catered for by these holiday schemes to promote tourism.
