The MDC Alliance clean up exercise which took place today at Tichagarika shopping centre in Glen View 3, Harare has been described as a fallacy by Glenview residents as it comes way after government has taken measures to contain the disease.
The residents argue that Chamisa’s clean-up campaign is insignificant as their community is already clean after Government`s intervention and that health inspectors are constantly coming to monitor the living conditions of the residents.
On his Twitter account Chamisa posted, “Cleaning our City. I`m in Glenview for a community hygiene programme. Our Smart cities agenda calls for a collective national effort. The Mayor and team have done a fantastic job to arrest the Cholera outbreak. Sincere thanks to all the contributions and support.”
Glenview residents castigated Chamisa`s actions putting the blame on the Municipalities which were run by MDC Councils since 2000. One Government official who refused to be named said, “MDC Alliance has failed the nation. The dilapidated roads, infrastructure and unattended water sewages in cities which has led to the outbreak of cholera in big cities like Harare has been caused by the incompetent MDC Alliance Councillors. They neglected these towns for over a decade, why are they showing up now.”
He went on to say that the MDC Alliance is always quick to play the blame game because it knows that it is incapable.
One netizen @ChichiLuciasii responding to Chamisa`s tweet said, “These MDC led councils are doing nothing for the good of the people. All the boreholes in Harare are now contaminated. We do not even know the last time we drank water from the taps. How can MDC Alliance embark on this cleaning up exercise after the damage has already been done?”
Glenview residents applauded the Government for coming to their rescue through provision of different measures to contain the cholera outbreak which saw the death of more than forty people.
