President Emmerson Mnangagwa has come out strongly and said that populist policies and initiatives have no place in the New Dispensation, and at the same time assuring the nation that the course Government has taken to resuscitate and reform the economy is the correct one.

“We must strengthen our resolve to correct the past wrong decisions we made with regards to our economy. Populist policies and initiatives for short term benefits have dire long term implications,” the President said.
President Mnangagwa went on to say that as a result of the robust economic reforms the country is pursuing the macro-economic fundamentals which will enable economic recovery have now been achieved.
“During this year we introduced austerity measures which were intended to bring back our economy on rail. We are happy to say that the macro fundamentals are now on course and have ended the austerity measures.
“We also have introduced mono currency on basis that no country can develop or grow its economy on the basis of other people’s currencies,” he said.
President Mnangagwa also challenged the party leadership to a new party discourse based on economics and productivity.
He also warned the party leadership and nation at large to be weary of the shenanigans of the country’s perennial detractors who seek to destabilise the country.
“I exhort you to exercise uttermost vigilance in the face of shenanigans of our perennial detractors. Let us not be enticed away from the ideals of our great party by self-seeking individuals with brute political ambition.
“Let the engagements with our membership be about economics, and productivity, it is only through higher productivity across all sectors that we will achieve sustainable economic development,” President Mnangagwa said.
