Zimbabwe’s economy will soon benefit from the Africa Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) following the progress on the establishment of the trading body at the on-going 6th AfCFTA meeting in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, the Ministry of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting has revealed.
On its twitter handle, the Ministry said Zimbabwe was attending an AfCFTA meeting at the African Union (AU) Headquarters where progress on the establishment of a free trade area among African States was being made.
“Zimbabwe is attending the 6th meeting of the AfCFTA at the AU Headquarters which is setting the groundwork for the establishment of an intra-Africa free trade area to promote trade among African states.
“The country is in the process of ratifying the agreement which will avail a market of 1.07 billion people with a combined GDP of US$3.3 trillion. The agreement dovetails with the Zimbabwe is open for business mantra which will lead to the realisation of the vision 2030,” said the Ministry.
Harare Post has learnt that the AfCFTA has its history dated back to 21 March 2018 in Kigali Rwanda when 44 countries signed the trade agreement. Zimbabwe is set to benefit through exporting goods in the African continent. Zimbabwe has several minerals which it exports such as diamonds, gold, platinum nickel, iron, chrome and steel among several others. The country has also a viable agriculture sector which enables it to export tobacco, fruits, flowers, cotton and sugar.
