President Mnangagwa appoints two new deputy ministers

President Emmerson Mnangagwa has appointed Honourable Albert Tawanda Mavunga and Honourable Caleb Makwiranzou as Deputy Ministers, effective immediately. The appointments were confirmed in an official statement issued by the Office of the President.

Honourable Albert Tawanda Mavunga was appointed Deputy Minister of Local Government and Public Works, with a focus on local authorities and traditional leadership.

"In terms of section 104, subsection 2 of the Constitution of Zimbabwe, His Excellency the President Cde Dr Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa has appointed Honourable Albert Tawanda Mavunga MP as the Deputy Minister of Local Government and Public Works responsible for Local Authorities and Traditional Leadership with immediate effect," the statement read.

In another key appointment, Honourable Caleb Makwiranzou was appointed Deputy Minister of Mines and Mining Development. His primary responsibilities will include managing oil and gas research, as well as overseeing the exploration of other strategic minerals.

"In terms of section 104, subsection 2 of the Constitution of Zimbabwe, His Excellency the President Cde Dr Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa has appointed Honourable Caleb Makwiranzou as Deputy Minister of Mines and Mining Development responsible for Oil and Gas Research, including other strategic minerals exploration with immediate effect," the statement added.

Political analysts have praised the President for these strategic appointments. Calven Chitsunge, a political analyst, commented. "The appointment of Mavunga and Makwiranzou is a timely and strategic move by the President, reflecting a commitment to strengthening critical sectors like local governance and mining. Both individuals bring a wealth of experience that will be vital in advancing the Government's goals of local development and resource management. This shows a proactive approach to key issues affecting Zimbabwe's growth and stability."

These appointments highlight the government's ongoing focus on strengthening crucial sectors, such as local government and mining. Mavunga will oversee the development of local governance structures and traditional leadership, while Makwiranzou will play a key role in advancing Zimbabwe's mining sector, particularly in the areas of oil, gas, and mineral exploration.
