Zimbabwe’s influence in continental markets continues to gain momentum as the nation has been chosen to host the African Continental Free Trade Area Association of African Commodity Exchanges Conference next month in Victoria Falls.
This prestigious event marks a significant milestone in Zimbabwe’s economic journey, as commodity exchanges from across Africa converge to review trade, identify emerging markets, and exchange ideas on economic integration and growth.
The annual Indaba, scheduled to run from March 272025, is a powerful endorsement of Zimbabwe’s commitment to bolstering intra-African trade.
According to the CEO of the Zimbabwe Mercantile Exchange, Colleen Tapfumaneyi, hosting the conference not only demonstrates the country’s strategic focus but also offers numerous benefits.
“Hosting the annual conference represents a significant milestone for Zimbabwe, offering multiple advantages. The country will showcase its contributions to the continent’s commodities markets, highlighting innovative frameworks and market development strategies,” Tapfumaneyi explained.
He further emphasised that the event is expected to attract investments in commodities, natural resources, and other strategic sectors.
As the host nation, Zimbabwe is set to showcase forward-thinking policies designed to liberalise the marketing of agro-based commodities. This move is anticipated to stimulate both local and regional trade, reinforcing Zimbabwe’s reputation as a dynamic player in Africa’s economic landscape.
The conference’s theme, “Scaling-up intra-African trade leveraging commodity exchanges for economic resilience and growth,” encapsulates the shared vision of enhancing Africa’s trade ecosystems.
Participants will tackle critical issues, such as harmonising trade practices across African markets, building robust pan-African supply chains, and promoting investments in the continent’s vast natural resources.
The conference also provides a platform for policymakers, investors, and trade experts to address long-standing challenges and to explore innovative solutions that unlock the full potential of regional trade.
With Africa facing various economic uncertainties, initiatives like this are seen as essential steps toward building a resilient and integrated continental economy. The Association of African Commodity Exchanges, a key driver behind intra-African trade, has played a pivotal role in making such transformative events possible.
By hosting the conference in Victoria Falls, a destination renowned for its natural beauty and international tourism appeal, Zimbabwe does not only underline its economic ambitions but also positions itself as a regional hub for trade and investment.
As the countdown to March 27 begins, the continent watches with anticipation, ready to witness Zimbabwe’s rise as a critical force in Africa’s economic revolution and a leader in the quest for sustainable growth and economic integration.
